High Point Christian Church Pastors
John Stahl, Senior Pastor
When asked what led John to want to serve God, he replied, ” Jesus made it pretty clear, love others as I loved you. He is a pretty solid example. I am just following his lead. We are all going to serve something, I choose to serve others because that is what God calls us to do while we are here.”
I have a wife, Deanna, that you will also hear me call Stella. I would not be a believer nor be serving as I do now if it were not for her. We have four children, the oldest being Chandler, second Jacob, Nathan third, and Becca (who I also call Boo) is our little girl, who is not so little any more:)
I am bi-vocational, and have my own business in the world of telecommunications and internet services for companies, specializing in multi-location mid-size companies because we service them long term.
I see High Point as a church family that is loving, kind, gentle, and caring, just as Jesus was. I see us as a church that is heading down the path of prayer and discipleship, which you can do without ceasing for prayer, and with intention and over time in disciplining. But, it is and will be worth the time. It changes lives. It changes people. It heals. It cares. It loves. And, even though it takes longer than most people want nowadays, you cannot held but see God as the journey continues because He is the only one who can make those kind of changes.
I believe God is bigger than the boogeyman. I believe there was a shooter on the grassy knoll. I believe our country was founded on Biblical beliefs and I try to live those principles an promises God gave us. I do not believe that the Bible is just another book, but that it is a love letter to us all. I believe God is all-powerful, all-passionate, and very personal…so much so that he sent his son Jesus to not only save the world…but little old me (and you), too.
I do not want to just hear about all of this, though, and believe when he said to be a doer of the word, he meant his Word, and so why just sit around and do nothing…just do it, baby! I believe I would love to fly like Superman, but would choose to be Batman because of the car if I had to pick between the two.
However, given a choice of any super powers, I would choose invisibility (Jesus modeled this once…cool story…read your Bible) because of the pranks I could pull, especially on our webmaster (her actual name is Elaine…careful, though, she punches so be wary when poking mama bear). I believe we can live by the guidance of the Holy Spirit because Jesus told us that, and since he was not crazy, that means he had to be of God, so we can all trust Him and His words.
Just to show you John’s sense of humor, when we asked him to prepare this bio, I included, I”f you have any questions, please let me know” and here is his response:
- Ok, if you were on a an island all by your self, what three things would you want to have with you and why?
- Do you believe LeBron will bring a championship to Cleveland or are we truly cursed?
- How many licks of a tootsie pop does it take YOU to get to the center?
- If you had to choose to be an animated character come to life, and you had to be one of these three, which would it be: Fat Albert, Johnny Bravo, or The Kool-Aid Man? Think about that one.
- Do you believe there was a shooter on the grassy knoll?
- If you could go back in time to interview one of the presidents who is now dead, which one would it be and what would you want to ask him?
